What Would Siri Do

Phil's Careers Blog What Would Siri Do? By Phil Gerard If you own an iPhone or know someone who owns one, have you ever asked Siri a foolish query just to listen to what she would answer? Come on, admit it! When I first got Siri on my iPhone this was extremely in style with my kids (and me as well I actually have to confess). It provided some good leisure for a while till the novelty lastly wore off. As humorous (and kind of sad) as it is to speak to a computer, we can truly be taught a thing or two from Siri. The different day, after dinner, my daughter took my telephone and asked one other silly question ‘what do you want higher, sizzling canine or hamburgers?’ Her reply was: “I don’t play favourites.” First I laughed and then I obtained a bit reflective (perhaps it was the wine). What a easy but diplomatic answer! I started to think about a number of the other forms of answers Siri usually presents and how we could apply some of the ideas in our professional interactions. Here are some examples of what Siri wo uld do, which might help make us extra likable at work and keep us out of hassle. Keep it humorous Siri does have a sense of humour. Especially, when she is asked an awkward or dumb query she usually offers a witty, intelligent reply. Humour can usually deflect stressful conditions at work. I had a co-worker once who was a genius in applying humour in difficult or awkward moments. A funny but tasteful and applicable remark can be extremely disarming. Stay professional Siri does not engage in unprofessional behaviour. Siri doesn’t waste time, she doesn’t gossip, and she doesn’t play favourites. Unless you ask her if Apple is best than Samsung! Be assured Confidence just isn't the identical as arrogance. It is ok to be assured with yourself and your competence. Say what you imagine and say no when you disagree. Don’t be a pushover. Siri knows who she is (she was designed by Apple in California, and he or she is loyal to the company). She will say her answers with pride and a c ertain degree of finality. And when you mess together with her she is going to let you know when sufficient is enough. Be relevant Often we believe we need to have a solution for every little thing instantly even when we're not certain that we know the reply. Take a while to do your analysis and make sure what you say is true and related. Do it the Siri means when you're undecided about one thing and say: ‘let me examine on that!’ Be factual Sometimes only the information matter and never our opinions. Sure, there are times after we do have to offer our (expert) opinion on a problem. But what I mean here are the situations the place our boss or colleagues do not want to hear the whole story, nor our ideas, and emotions a few easy issue. At work we must always stay goal, non judgmental and focus on the task at hand. Siri only states the facts and doesn’t add her interpretations or opinions. Be nice Not being a pushover doesn’t mean we should not be a good colleague and pleasa nt to be around. Siri is all the time prepared to help others out and she or he does it with a smile in her voice.
